Our philosophy has always been to expect our residents to perform to the highest standards. Hands-on experience, exposure to medical specialties, expert guidance and a focus on learning by doing are the things we value for our residents experience. That’s why we have developed a multi-faceted Transitional Residency program that emphasizes daily development of new skills, while offering residents the opportunity to explore their interests.

We realize that the modern resident must deal with a whole new set of challenges and stresses not always adequately appreciated in the past. We dedicate ourselves to providing the amount of supervision and support that you need. The institutional support that all residents receive relieves them of many hours of non-medical, non-educational chores. That helps to create an atmosphere conducive for your education. We provide the ethical and psychological support required to make your stay at Sacred Heart Medical Center successful and rewarding. Your year at Sacred Heart will be a productive and enjoyable one, preparing you for the next step in your chosen area of training.

We are presently in year four of a five-year, full accreditation by the ACGME. The program evaluates the residents based on the general competencies and we will be introducing outcome projects to fulfill the educational goals of the ACGME. Our residents consistently pass and score well on the USMLE exams and we provide time off for those exams to be completed prior to the next level of training.

Once you have learned about us, I strongly encourage you to visit Sacred Heart Medical Center to fully appreciate all we have to offer a transitional resident.
