Facts and Stats

Sacred Heart has a commanding presence in Spokane and is a beacon of hope and healing for people throughout the region. Seattle residents choose us for robotic heart surgery and parents from all over the Inland Northwest who have children with life-threatening conditions know they’ll find the care and comfort they need at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital. People from outlying areas travel hundreds of miles to have heart or kidney transplants here.

Spokane recognizes Seart Heart for the economic impact our organization has on this region. In fact, the health care sector—of which Sacred Heart is a major player—provides 21 percent of Spokane County jobs (equivalent to 53,500 positions) and has a $1.8 billion total impact on the county’s income.

But none of our achievements would matter (or even occur, really) without the people who give our organization life—employees who care about doing their jobs well. It is their commitment to teamwork, compassion and concern that truly changes lives. Maybe even yours.

We encourage you to download our “Facts and Stats” brochure and read for yourself about the magnitude and quality of the services we offer to people in our region. We think you’ll agree that Sacred Heart is truly a leader in the nation, and you can feel confident knowing you are receiving stellar care, close to home.

Core Values
A Community of Healing, founded by the Sisters of Providence, inspired by the words and deeds of Jesus. Commitment to Excellence, offering health care services with prudent stewardship to meet physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Collaboration with Caregivers, forming effective networks of caring, especially for those who are poor, in the search for health and wholeness.
Our History
Sacred Heart Medical Center’s relationship with Spokane and the Inland Northwest began in 1886. Mother Joseph and a small band of Providence Sisters ventured into the Northwest and opened the region's first hospital in the bustling frontier town of Spokane Falls. The 31-bed, wood-framed structure soon was a landmark along the Spokane River where the Doubletree Inn now stands. Sacred Heart was one of 29 hospitals, schools, orphanages and care centers established by the Sisters to give charity care to the sick, poor, aged and homeless.
