Sacred Heart Medical Center named a Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital

Solucient LogoSacred Heart Medical Center has been recognized as one of the 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation. Sacred Heart is one of only 47 hospitals nationwide to receive this honor.

The 2006 Solucient study, 100 Top Hospitals: Cardiovascular Benchmarks for Success, names the nation's top 100 best-performing hospitals for cardiovascular services out of over 6,000 acute care hospitals.

Compared with their peers, the 100 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals:

  • have better clinical outcomes in terms of mortality and complications
  • have lower costs
  • maintain shorter lenghts of stay
  • and are technologically and clinically advanced

The study focused on hospitals that treat the full spectrum of cardiology patients; from those who do not require invasive procedures to those needing an angioplasty or an open-heart surgery. The data used for this study are from Solucient's hostpial databases and MedPAR(Medicare Provider Analysis and Review). MedPAR contains information on the approximately 12 million annual Medicare discharges from the nation's acute care hospitals. More information is available at http://www.100tophospitals.com.

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for men and women, and accounts for nearly 300,000 Medicare hospitalizations each year. Approximately 15 percent of what patients spend on hospital care is spent on cardiology-related services.

Sacred Heart Medical Center is the regional referral center for Eastern Washington, Western Montana and North Idaho that offers comprehensive, not-for-profit, mission-based health care.
