Spokane, WA - Sacred Heart Medical Center has announced the retirement of G. Thomas Miller, MD, chief medical officer of Sacred Heart and Providence Health Care, effective October 13.
Since 1998 when Dr. Miller became the chief medical officer–the first to fill such a role at the Medical Center - he has worked to foster communications between Sacred Heart and its 800-member medical staff and to provide continuity of leadership between incoming and outgoing presidents of the medical staff. He focused on assuring ongoing quality measurements and overseeing the Medical Center's quality initiatives and taking responsibility for the departments of Medical Staff Services, Risk Management, Performance Improvement, Case Management, Epidemiology and Research. Prior to joining Sacred Heart's leadership, Dr. Miller was a partner for 27 years with Spokane Ear Nose and Throat Clinic.
Sacred Heart is proud to introduce Jeff Collins, MD, as the new chief medical officer, effective September 18. An internal medicine physician, Dr. Collins has served as president of the Spokane County Medical Society, president and Board member of the Washington State Medical Association and has been an alternate delegate to the American Medical Association. In his practice with Physicians Clinic, he has been a pioneer in the treatment of AIDS patients in the Spokane region.
