Trauma disaster plan to be shared with governors
Spokane, WA - Sacred Heart Medical Center has been selected by the National Foundation for Trauma Care as one of five "best preparedness practice trauma centers" in the nation, specifically related to communication. The designation was made following a recent inventory of trauma centers across the U.S., based on information about preparedness for a terrorist-type attack as well as other disaster hazards.
As a result of this designation, Sacred Heart has received a $1,000 award and serves as a resource to other trauma centers to aid in their ability to response to mass casualty situations of all types.?? Additionally, the National Foundation will share the best practice materials of the selected hospitals with governors in all 50 states to share with their disaster preparedness groups.?? The goal is that this type of activity will show government leaders the role trauma centers play in Homeland Security operations.
Ben Haworth, director of Safety Services for Sacred Heart and other Providence hospitals, says the recognition of Sacred Heart???s work is "really community recognition."?? The Spokane region, says Haworth, is very proactive where disaster preparedness is concerned.?? "All of our hospitals and other key players come to the table to meet face to face.?? We know each other ??? and that???s a huge plus."
"This recognition truly wouldn???t be possible without the support and participation from all our community partners," Haworth adds.
The National Foundation for Trauma Care conducted its survey on best preparedness practice with a grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
