Commendation given to Providence Cancer Center

Spokane, Wash. - Providence Cancer Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center recently received notification that the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) has granted a three-year approval of accreditation with commendation. Of 446 cancer centers nationwide with this certification, only 56 percent have received commendation for their superior quality of care. Holy Family Hospital received commendation status in 2004.

Three-year Commission on Cancer certification follows on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor who verifies compliance in leadership, data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.  It ensures that patients receive comprehensive care, a multi-specialty team approach to coordinate the best treatment options, a cancer registry offering lifelong patient follow up and more.

"Commendation from the ACOS demonstrates the effectiveness of the care system Providence Cancer Center has developed over the past several years. With our physicians, nurses, support specialists and other providers working together, we provide a seamless care delivery system for patients and their families," says Linda Thompson, interim director.

Providence Cancer Center offers a complete spectrum of care—from screening and prevention to diagnosis, treatment and support services at both Sacred Heart and Holy Family Hospital.
