Gift gives pediatric patients access to multi-media technology
SPOKANE, WA—Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital patients will soon enjoy a new “Fun Center” thanks to a Hollywood Video grant. The Fun Center will be unveiled with a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony in the Children’s Hospital fourth floor serenity room on Tuesday, December 20 at 1 p.m. Representatives from Starlight Starbright and Hollywood Video from Seattle, as well as local managers, will be on hand for the event.
Starlight Fun Centers are mobile entertainment units designed to roll bedside so hospitalized children can easily access them. Each station includes a Nintendo Game Cube™ system, a DVD player, a Sharp® AQUOS™ liquid crystal television and a library of assorted games and videos.
"Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital is thrilled to have the new Fun Center," says Peggy Mangiaracina, executive director. "Fun Centers provide a welcome distraction to children undergoing medical treatments or passing the time during long hours in their hospital rooms. We couldn't be more grateful to Hollywood Video and Starlight Starbright for their generous gift."
Starlight Starbright is also sponsoring a “Hospital Happening” on Tuesday afternoon. This fun event will allow hospitalized children to “shop” for holiday gifts for their family members —and themselves. Toys and other gift items donated by Starlight Starbright will be displayed in the Children’s Hospital classrooms and patients will visit throughout the day. Volunteers will be on hand to help the children wrap their gift choices.
