Spokane, WA - For its September production, Sacred Heart Medical Center enlisted more than 200 volunteers from within its organization and from numerous medical clinics, labs and health-related organizations to put on "Heart Follies: Postcards from the Heart," a Broadway-style production at the Spokane Opera House. Last, week, Sacred Heart announced the show netted a profit a $54,373.
Of that total, $40,780 benefits the Sister Peter Claver Endowment, a Sacred Heart Foundation fund that supports the Medical Center's clinic at the Catholic Diocese’s House of Charity, the Patient Emergency Fund and other causes that help needy patients get back on their feet.
The remaining $13,593 was donated to the Women's and Children's Free Restaurant, a program that has been serving free dinners to women and children since 1988 in the St. Paul’s United Methodist Church on North Monroe. The Restaurant provides warm, nutritious meals, thanks to donations from individuals, church groups, businesses, small grants and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
Sacred Heart has produced 13 Heart Follies; the first was in 1986 as a celebration of the hospital’s 100th anniversary. The 2005 “Postcards from Heart” is one of only two Follies to support a fund other than the Sister Peter Claver Endowment; the other was in 2001 when proceeds from ticket sales benefited the American Red Cross in response to 9-11.
