What is an Acoustic Neuroma?
An acoustic neuroma is a benign tumor on the nerve leading from the brain to the inner ear. This nerve has two parts: one carries sound and the other sends information about balance to the brain from the inner ear. This nerve lies next to the facial nerve and the two pass through a bony canal called the internal auditory canal.
What is an aneurysm?
A cerebral aneurysm is an abnormal swelling or ballooning of a brain artery. It is usually due to weakness in the wall of the vessel. This condition is either present at birth (congenital) or acquired. Medical problems like high blood pressure contribute to the formation of aneurysms.
What is an AVM?
An arterial venous malformation is a nest of tangled blood vessels that may occur in many parts of the body. Normally, blood travels from the heart to all the body's tissues through the arteries. These arteries get progressively smaller to the point where they become very thin-walled capillaries. Nutrients in the blood enter and feed body tissues through the capillaries. The now nutrient-poor blood returns to the heart through the veins.
